Being in Community
Community is especially important for LGBTQ+ law students because it provides connection, support, and empowerment in an environment that can often feel isolating or competitive. Law school presents unique pressures—academic rigor, professional expectations, and questions of identity within a traditionally conservative field. Having a community of peers who share or affirm LGBTQ+ experiences helps students navigate these challenges with confidence and authenticity. It creates a space for mentorship, mutual encouragement, and advocacy, where individuals can celebrate diversity while working together to promote inclusion within the legal profession. Ultimately, a strong LGBTQ community not only uplifts its members but also strengthens the broader legal landscape by fostering empathy, equity, and justice. The good news, it that it is easier than every to build community with LGBTQ+ and ally peers on campus and across the country thanks to the National LGBTQ+ Bar!
