Welcome to the National LGBTQ+ Bar’s Backpack to Briefcase!

Backpack to Briefcase (B2B) is a program of the National LGBTQ+ Bar designed specifically to support and empower LGBTQ+ and ally law students as they navigate law school and enter the legal profession. Explore content touching on a number of topics, including Law School Skills, Health & Wellness, LGBTQ+ Legal Knowledge, Career Planning, and more! We will continuously update and add items, so check back regularly to see what’s new. If there is a particular resource or topic that would be helpful to you, please let us know at info@lgbtqbar.org. Law school is challenging, but never forget that you have a community behind you at the National LGBTQ+ Bar.

Student Affiliates

If you are curious whether your school has a student group affiliate of the National LGBTQ+ Bar, or if you are looking to connect with other law student groups, you can use our Law Student Group Affiliate Directory. If you are part of a LGBTQ+ student group not listed here, you are also welcome to join our affiliate program. The link to join is included on the directory page, but you can also reach out to programs@lgbtqbar.org directly for more information.

If you are looking for state or regional support and advice, you are welcome to reach out to our Bar Association/Section Affiliates, which are listed in a directory here.

Office Hours

The National LGBTQ+ Bar hosts Office Hours with Advocacy Counsel, Mari Nemec, from 2-4pm Eastern on the last Friday of each month. You’re welcome to drop in and chat about these concerns, or anything else law school and law profession related. Here is the Zoom link, and here is a link to a calendar invite.

LEAD Academy

The National LGBTQ+ Bar hosts LEAD Academy, which is a day program designed specifically for LGBTQ+ and ally law students. Learn more here.

Lavender Law®

Each year, the National LGBTQ+ Bar hold our annual Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair, which is a fantastic opportunity for law students to network, learn, and find jobs. Learn more here.

Members of Law Student Group Affiliates may join the National LGBTQ+ Bar or renew their membership dues at 50% off the standard dues rate. Please contact your affiliate for the discount code and then reach out to us at info@lgbtqbar.org to receive the special affiliate membership form. If your affiliate does not know the code, reach out to use directly.
